Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Calls for Political Unity with a ‘New Democratic Charter’
Islamabad – In a press briefing at the Parliament House, Former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, urged political parties to come together under a ‘New Democratic Charter.’ He emphasized the need to strengthen the existing ‘Charter of Democracy’ and enhance collaboration among political forces to address the nation’s pressing challenges.
Bilawal highlighted the importance of resolving the ongoing parliamentary impasse, stressing that the focus should be on solving the core issues impacting the people of Pakistan. “Our goal is not just to remain in power, but to address the fundamental problems facing the public. If governance fails to address these, its purpose is defeated,” he stated.
In response to a query regarding the possible extension of the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s tenure, Bilawal dismissed it as an individual matter, instead advocating for broader constitutional reforms with real implementation.
He also acknowledged Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s significant role within the opposition and urged him to contribute positively where needed. Addressing rumors of the possible imposition of Governor’s rule, Bilawal clarified that while the PPP is not in favor of such measures, it could become necessary if circumstances demand it.
On economic issues, the PPP leader underscored the need to urgently address poverty and resource shortages. He expressed support for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal of a “Chartered Economy,” insisting that any national economic strategy must involve comprehensive consultation with all political stakeholders to be truly effective.
This call for unity comes amid growing political tensions and economic challenges facing the country.
