Pakistan Becomes World’s Second-Most Terrorism-Affected Country in 2024: Report
Islamabad: Pakistan has emerged as the second-most terrorism-affected country in the world in 2024, according to the latest Global Terrorism Index 2025 report. The country moved up two spots from its previous fourth position, witnessing a sharp rise in terror-related incidents and casualties.
The report highlights a 45% surge in terrorism-related deaths, with the toll rising from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024—one of the steepest increases globally. Additionally, the number of terror attacks more than doubled from 517 in 2023 to 1,099 in 2024, marking the first time that such incidents have crossed the 1,000-mark since the index was established.
Surge in Terrorism Amid Recent Attacks
The grim statistics come just a day after security forces successfully foiled a major terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eliminating all 16 militants who attempted to infiltrate the facility.
The attack, however, resulted in the martyrdom of five soldiers and 13 civilians, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
With terrorism on the rise, Pakistan continues to grapple with security challenges as authorities intensify efforts to counter militant threats.
