Government Announces Three-Day Eidul Fitr Holiday from March 31 to April 2

The federal government has announced a three-day public holiday for Eidul Fitr, from March 31 to April 2, 2025. The notification, issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday, stated that Prime Minister has approved the holidays, which will fall from Monday to Wednesday.

However, the final date of Eidul Fitr will be determined based on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees, is scheduled to meet on the evening of March 30 (Sunday) to observe the moon and confirm the end of Ramazan.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), there is a strong likelihood of the Shawwal moon being sighted on March 30. A notification issued by the department on March 7, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, supports this forecast.

Additionally, last month, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had predicted that Ramazan would begin on March 2 and Eidul Fitr would be observed on March 31.

Eidul Fitr, a major Islamic festival, marks the conclusion of Ramazan, a month of fasting and spiritual reflection observed by Muslims worldwide. The festival is celebrated with prayers, feasts, and gatherings with family and friends.
