IHC Bars Authorities from Arresting PTI MNA Sher Afzal Marwat Without Permission
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has prohibited authorities from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Sher Afzal Marwat without prior permission. In a written order issued by Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz, the court directed authorities to provide details of any cases filed against Marwat.
The court has also served notices to the Secretary of Interior, Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad, IG Punjab, and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The petition, filed by Marwat’s legal counsel, expressed concerns over a potential secret arrest in a pending case. In response, the court ruled that Marwat cannot be arrested without explicit permission in any case.
The court has asked all parties involved to present their arguments regarding the petition.
This development comes after several PTI leaders, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Shoaib Shaheen, were arrested following the party’s rally in Sangjani. Additionally, Capital police detained MNAs Zain Qureshi and Sheikh Waqas Akram from within the Parliament House, along with Owais Ahmed Chatha, Syed Shah Ahmed, Sunni Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Yousaf Khan, Maulana Naseem Shah, and Ahmed Shah Khattak.
In a related ruling, the IHC recently declared the eight-day remand of the PTI lawmakers as invalid.
