Cyclonic Storm Threatens Sindh Coastline as Depression Nears Arabian Sea

Karachi, Pakistan – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued an alert on Friday regarding a deep depression currently advancing towards the Arabian Sea from India’s Rann of Kutch. The system, located approximately 200 kilometers southeast of Karachi, has the potential to intensify into a cyclonic storm as it continues its west-southwestward trajectory along Sindh’s coastal belt.

In its latest cyclone update, the PMD warned that the depression, a powerful low-pressure system, could evolve into a cyclonic storm by late Friday afternoon or evening, provided environmental conditions remain conducive.

The Met Office also forecasted heavy rainfall in Karachi within the next 24 hours, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. On Friday, the city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 26°C, with the maximum expected to range between 28°C and 30°C. Winds from the northeast are currently blowing through the metropolis at a speed of 22 km/h.

The potential cyclonic storm is expected to bring heavy downpours to several districts across Sindh, including Karachi, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad, through August 31. Authorities are urging residents in these areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
