Police Mobile Attacked with Hand Grenades in Kohat, One Terrorist Killed

KOHAT: In yet another act of terrorism, a police mobile was targeted with hand grenades by militants in the Shadipur area of Kohat, the regional police officer (RPO) confirmed on Tuesday.

One police officer sustained injuries in the attack, while security forces retaliated, killing a terrorist on the spot. Several other militants were apprehended during the police operation, the RPO added.

Authorities recovered hand grenades and other weapons from the arrested suspects, and a search operation is currently underway to track down additional assailants involved in the attack.

Surge in Terror Attacks Across Pakistan

This incident comes at a time when Pakistan is experiencing a sharp increase in terrorist attacks. According to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 saw a 42% surge in militant attacks compared to the previous month.

At least 74 terrorist attacks were recorded nationwide, resulting in 91 fatalities, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 people were injured, with security forces and civilians among the casualties.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remained the worst-affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s settled districts, militants carried out 27 attacks, leading to 19 deaths, while the tribal districts witnessed 19 attacks, resulting in 46 fatalities.

With the security situation worsening, law enforcement agencies continue operations to curb the growing militant threats in the country.
