Imran Khan Writes to Army Chief, Urges Policy Reevaluation
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced on Monday that party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, emphasizing the need to reassess key policies. The letter, Gohar stated, would be made public later today.
The development comes amid ongoing speculation about a recent meeting between PTI leaders—Ali Amin Gandapur and Barrister Gohar—and the army chief. While initial reports about the meeting sparked controversy, its agenda remained unclear, with conflicting statements from both sides. Gohar initially denied any contact but later acknowledged the meeting, claiming to have received a “positive response.” However, statements attributed to security sources denied any political discussions, asserting that the meeting’s context was being misrepresented.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar said that in his letter, Imran Khan highlighted growing mistrust between the public and the establishment, stressing that such a divide should not exist. “There are certain reasons why this gulf is widening, and due to these reasons, the army is being blamed,” he quoted Imran as saying, adding that policies must be reevaluated to address these concerns.
According to Gohar, the letter outlines key issues contributing to this perceived disconnect, including the 2024 general elections, the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment, and the recent Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) amendments, particularly the targeting of social media to suppress dissent.
Imran Khan reportedly elaborated on these matters in detail, urging a reconsideration of current policies. PTI has assured that the full text of the letter will be released today.
