Prime Suspect Arrested in Karachi Crypto Trader Kidnapping Case

Karachi: A specialized unit of Karachi police has arrested the prime suspect, Ali Raza, in connection with the short-term kidnapping and robbery of a cryptocurrency trader, officials confirmed.

Raza’s arrest marks the ninth suspect apprehended in the case, which involved the abduction of a crypto trader who was robbed of approximately $340,000 on December 24, 2024, in the Manghopir area of Karachi. Among the suspects were officials from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and a police officer assigned to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) security unit.

Following the victim’s complaint, Karachi police launched an extensive operation, leading to the arrests of eight individuals. During the raids, authorities recovered Rs1.2 million from an accused named Haris Siddiqui and confiscated a luxury vehicle worth Rs8 million.

Ali Raza, a CTD official, had managed to evade arrest but has now been taken into custody. Preliminary investigations revealed that the kidnappers used a police mobile belonging to a CTD official for the abduction. Additionally, another police vehicle from the CPEC police unit was allegedly used to manipulate CCTV footage.
