Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman Questions Government’s Reluctance to Meet Demands
Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has questioned the government’s hesitation in accepting his party’s demands, despite claiming that both sides share the same views.
Speaking to the media today, Hafiz Naeem stated, “We are in talks with the government’s committee, and they are saying our demands are also their demands. What is the issue in accepting these demands?” He emphasized that JI’s primary concern is providing relief for the people of Pakistan.
He urged the government to act on their shared demands, which include curbing the influence of independent power producers (IPPs), reducing the tax burden on salaried individuals, and imposing taxes on the feudal class. “The IPPs’ forensic audit will expose those responsible,” he claimed, noting that successive governments over the past 30 years have empowered the IPPs.
Clarifying JI’s stance, he said, “We don’t want to fight with the institutions; we only want our rights. It must be decided in writing that the IPPs’ business must now come to an end.”
Hafiz Naeem warned of potential unrest if the government fails to address the concerns of the youth. “We have kept the situation under control as conditions have already worsened, and Pakistan cannot afford anarchy,” he cautioned.
