Imran Khan Writes Second Open Letter to Army Chief, Claims PTI Being ‘Targeted’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has penned a second open letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, alleging that Pakistan’s largest political party is being systematically “targeted.”

In the letter, Khan expressed disappointment over what he described as an “irresponsible and unserious” response to his previous communication. He stated that his initial letter was written with “sincere intentions” to bridge the widening gap between the military and the public, warning of its potential consequences.

Khan reiterated his credentials, emphasizing his 55 years of public service and 30 years of transparent earnings. “My life and death are solely tied to Pakistan,” he wrote.

He further alleged that the current government was installed through pre-poll rigging and that constitutional amendments and restrictive laws, such as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), were being used to suppress dissent and control the judiciary.

Highlighting political instability, he warned that the “might is right” approach had pushed the economy into turmoil. He also claimed that PTI leaders, workers, and supporters were being targeted, with state institutions being used for “political engineering and revenge.”

Referring to his imprisonment, Khan described his treatment as inhumane, stating that he had been held in solitary confinement without sunlight for 20 days and was deprived of basic facilities, including exercise equipment, television, and newspapers. He added that in the past six months, he had been allowed to speak to his sons only three times and that his wife had been denied visitation rights despite court orders.

Khan also alleged that over 2,000 PTI workers, supporters, and leaders were still awaiting bail hearings, with judicial delays being deliberately orchestrated. He further warned that Pakistan’s GSP+ trade status was at risk due to increasing restrictions on free speech under PECA.

The letter underscores the growing tensions between PTI and state institutions, as the party continues to challenge the legitimacy of the 2024 general elections and the current administration.
