Khawaja Asif Alleges PTI Founder and Faiz Hameed Collaborated in Political Maneuvers

Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday reiterated that former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, along with retired Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, were key collaborators in orchestrating significant political maneuvers that influenced the country’s political landscape.

Speaking to journalists outside the Parliament House, Asif alleged that Faiz Hameed played a pivotal role in bringing the PTI leader to power. He also stated that the fate of the PTI founder’s potential military trial would be determined in accordance with the law. Highlighting historical context, Asif noted that several civilians had faced military trials during the PTI’s tenure in government.

The defense minister claimed that the partnership between Khan and Hameed began before the 2018 general elections and continued in subsequent years, including during the controversial events of May 9, 2023. He further alleged that evidence would emerge to expose how the Results Transmission System (RTS) was manipulated to favor PTI’s rise to power while silencing political opponents.

Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Formally Indicted

The remarks came a day after Lt. Gen. (Retd) Faiz Hameed, former Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was indicted on charges of engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, and other allegations.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) process was initiated against Hameed on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act. He has been charged with engaging in political activities detrimental to state interests, misuse of authority, violation of the Official Secrets Act, and causing wrongful loss to individuals.
