Azam Swati Rearrested Outside Attock Jail Moments After Release
Azam Swati, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was rearrested by police outside Attock jail moments after being released on bail. Swati had secured bail from an anti-terrorism court in multiple cases tied to PTI’s October 4 protest, yet was detained again by Taxila police as soon as he left the jail premises.
Swati, along with PTI founder Imran Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and other prominent party members, is facing charges that include attempted murder, arson, assault on police officers, and attacks on state property. These allegations stem from an incident during PTI’s D Chowk protest, which reportedly led to the death of Constable Abdul Hameed.
According to police, Constable Hameed sustained fatal injuries after allegedly being attacked by protestors on duty at Chungi Number 26 on GT Road. The first information report (FIR) claims that Hameed was subjected to violence, reportedly at the instigation of PTI leaders, before he succumbed to his injuries.
Other PTI leaders implicated in the case include Omar Ayub, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, PTI Islamabad President Aamir Mughal, Malik Hafeez Ur Rehman Tipu, and approximately 400 unidentified individuals. The FIR alleges that protestors wielded sticks, stones, and iron rods to assault police officers, tearing their uniforms and causing multiple injuries.
