Haniya Aslam, Renowned ‘Coke Studio’ Artist, Succumbs to Cardiac Arrest

Musician Haniya Aslam, best known as one-half of the musical duo Zeb-Haniya, passed away on Sunday, August 11. Her cousin and musical partner, Zeb Bangash, confirmed the heartbreaking news through an Instagram post.

Haniya reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest. Together, she and Zeb created memorable music, including the hit song “Chal Diye” on Coke Studio.

On Monday morning, Zeb shared a touching tribute on Instagram, posting a series of photos with the caption, “Hanini ♥️.”

The news of Haniya’s passing sparked an outpouring of condolences from fellow artists and fans.

Cricketer Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi commented with lyrics from their famous song, “Aas wohi dil mai leye, iss aarzoo mai hum jiyen, tera haath thaam k, lo ham bhi chal diye… Rest in peace.”

Anchor Dino Ali expressed his sorrow, saying, “Inna lillahe wa inna ilaehe raje’oon – she was always so sweet and a brilliant talent. I’m so sorry for your loss and pray that Allah gives you and the family strength during this difficult time. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannah. Ameen.”

RJ Sophiya Anjam wrote, “My dearest Zeb, I am so, so sorry. Haniya was a brilliant artist, a warm soul, and loved by many. She has left us with memories to cherish. I cannot imagine the pain her loved ones are going through, but I pray that Allah makes it easy. Sending you love and deepest condolences. Her music and spirit will always be celebrated.”

Indian lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire was also shocked by the news, writing, “WTF… what happened? OMG.” He later shared an Instagram Story, adding, “This is not fair, God… this sweet girl, my dearest Haniya, is no more. She suffered a cardiac arrest. Haniya and I shared a special bond. She was an exceptional musician and the purest soul I’ve met. Rest in peace, Haniya.”

Born in Karachi, Haniya pursued her education in the USA and UK before earning a diploma in Audio Engineering in Canada. In a 2020 interview with Youlin Magazine, she reflected on her musical journey, saying, “I’m not sure if I started pursuing music or if music started pursuing me!”
