KP Adviser Calls for Disarmament in Kurram to Ensure Lasting Peace

Peshawar – Barrister Muhammad Saif, Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, has emphasized that peace in Kurram district can only be achieved if all factions surrender their weapons to the government.

“Without disarmament, ensuring security and reopening roads remains a challenge,” Barrister Saif said during an interview on Geo News’ Geo Pakistan Thursday morning.

Road Blockades and Security Challenges

The adviser highlighted that disarmament is crucial for lifting road blockades, including a 20-kilometre stretch to Parachinar, which has been closed following a recent attack on a convoy. The blockade has compounded the district’s security and logistical challenges.

He added that resolving these critical issues is vital for restoring stability to the violence-hit district.

Medical Supplies Delivered

In a separate development, the government delivered essential medicines to Kurram via helicopter. The shipment included vaccines, cancer treatments, and other life-saving drugs, addressing concerns of shortages. Barrister Saif dismissed claims of fatalities due to a lack of medical supplies, stating that there is no emergency in this regard.

Dialogue and Disarmament

Barrister Saif reiterated the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with stakeholders, but underscored that mutual trust hinges on the surrender of weapons. “It is necessary to eliminate bunkers and clear the area of weapons for lasting peace,” he said, referencing a provincial cabinet decision.

He also cautioned against propaganda on social media, urging for restraint to avoid escalating tensions.
