Pakistan Reduces Electricity Tariff for EV Charging Stations to Boost Adoption
Islamabad—The Government of Pakistan has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of its efforts to promote sustainable transportation.
Energy Minister Awais Leghari revealed that the tariff for EV charging stations has been reduced from Rs 71.10 per unit to Rs 39.70 per unit. He emphasized that the government is committed to fostering the adoption of electric vehicles to address energy and environmental challenges.
As part of this initiative, the government has streamlined the approval process for installing charging stations. “Permission to establish a charging station will now be issued within 15 days,” Minister Leghari stated. He added that charging stations could also be set up in neighborhoods and streets, increasing accessibility for EV owners.
The Power Division has issued a formal notification implementing the concessional tariff and has also introduced regulations to facilitate the establishment of EV charging stations and alternative battery swap points.
“These regulations have been enforced under the National Energy Conservation Authority,” the Power Division noted in a statement.
The move is expected to significantly lower operational costs for EV users and encourage private investment in charging infrastructure, paving the way for broader adoption of electric mobility across the country.
