Imran Khan Ends Talks with Government Over Judicial Commission Delay

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has called off negotiations with the government, citing its failure to establish a judicial commission within the agreed seven-day timeframe. The announcement was made by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan during a media briefing outside Adiala Jail.

Speaking to reporters, Barrister Gohar, who, along with Khan and other members of the PTI legal team, has been imprisoned for over a year, said the delay had led to Khan’s decision to terminate the dialogue process.

“The founder of PTI has categorically stated that no further negotiations will take place,” Gohar said. “The government has failed to honor its commitments, and this breach of trust leaves no reason to continue talks.”

Negotiations between the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government began in late December as an attempt to reduce escalating political tensions. Despite three rounds of talks, held over several weeks, little progress was made on critical issues.

During the third session on January 16, the PTI presented a written charter of demands, which included the establishment of two judicial commissions to be jointly nominated by both parties within seven days, as well as the release of “political prisoners.” The government’s inability to meet the stipulated timeline prompted Khan’s decision to end discussions.

This development marks a setback in efforts to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Pakistan. The government has yet to respond to Khan’s announcement.
