IHC Grants Imran Khan Permission to Contact Family, Lawyers, and Sons

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan permission to meet his family, consult his lawyers, and make WhatsApp calls to his sons, ARY News reported.

The decision followed a request by Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, who urged the court to allow Khan to communicate with his family and connect with his sons, Sulaiman Khan and Qasim Khan, via WhatsApp.

The court directed jail authorities to facilitate these meetings and calls. Additionally, the court sought clarification on the procedure for arranging meetings between Khan and his convicted wife, Bushra Bibi. The deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail informed the court that such meetings could be organized within the jail premises.

Faisal Chaudhry argued that despite previous court orders, Khan had not been allowed to meet his family or make WhatsApp calls to his sons. Responding to this, the court instructed jail authorities to consult the jail superintendent for further guidance and to report back to the court.

The Islamabad High Court adjourned the hearing until January 27.

Petition for Facilities in Jail

Earlier, Khan’s legal team filed a petition with the IHC requesting the provision of facilities to the PTI founder as per legal requirements. The petition, submitted by lawyer Faisal Farid Chaudhry, referenced a judgment issued by a special judge central on January 10 regarding a similar matter.

The petition urged the court to prevent the misuse of judicial orders and ensure the implementation of legal procedures necessary for justice. It alleged that jail officials were acting in violation of the law by not providing the requested facilities to Khan.

The petition further requested that Khan be allowed weekly telephonic conversations with his children and access to reading materials, including books and newspapers. Additionally, it called for ensuring that the PTI founder could meet his family members and legal counsel weekly, as stipulated under Pakistan Jail Rules 1978.
