PCB Confirms Inauguration Dates for Gaddafi and National Stadiums Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Friday confirmed that the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Stadium in Karachi will be inaugurated on February 7 and February 11, respectively, in preparation for the highly anticipated ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

“Lahore stadium is going to be inaugurated on February 7, God willing,” Naqvi told the media at Gaddafi Stadium. He further revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the Lahore venue, while President Asif Ali Zardari will preside over the Karachi stadium’s inauguration.

Naqvi stated that the renovation work is in its final stages, with workers giving finishing touches, and assured that 100% of the work will be completed before February 7.

“The construction and renovation of Gaddafi Stadium was scheduled to be completed by January 31,” he added, noting that work on the historic stadium commenced in October last year.

Referring to the event’s opening ceremony, the PCB chairman announced that it will take place on February 16 in collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC). He also confirmed that India and ICC Chairman Jay Shah have been invited to the ceremony, though Shah’s attendance remains unconfirmed.

“We are completely prepared for the Champions Trophy,” Naqvi assured, adding that Pakistan’s squad for the tournament will be announced soon. “We trust the selection team, and a strong squad will be chosen,” he said.

Discussing the participation of international players from the seven other competing nations, Naqvi emphasized that they will be warmly welcomed. The PCB, in coordination with other stakeholders, is actively working on security and logistical arrangements to ensure a seamless experience for the teams.

The eight-team tournament, featuring 15 matches, will take place from February 19 to March 9 across three venues—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi—in Pakistan and Dubai.
