Aid Convoy Attacked in Kurram, Driver Injured Amid Ongoing Security Crisis
An aid convoy traveling from Thall to Kurram came under gunfire near the Ochit area of Lower Kurram on Monday, injuring a truck driver. The convoy, consisting of 64 vehicles, was en route to Kurram when unidentified assailants launched the attack. In response, officials decided to turn the convoy back to Hangu for safety.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and security measures in the area have been heightened to prevent further violence.
Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Adviser to the KP Chief Minister on Information, condemned the attack, emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to restoring peace in the region. The KP Chief Minister has directed authorities to take strict action against those responsible for the disruption, stressing that efforts to maintain the fragile ceasefire will not be undermined.
Saif further pointed out that significant progress has been made through a grand jirga, where conflicting parties reached agreements to rebuild trust. As part of the government’s strategy, the removal of illegal bunkers in the area is underway to promote long-term stability.
The attack has disrupted critical relief efforts in the region, which has been enduring a protracted period of instability. The government has been sending convoys with food and essential supplies, aiming to alleviate the severe shortages of goods due to ongoing tribal violence.
Kurram has faced decades of violence, with recent fighting claiming over 150 lives since November. A ceasefire agreement brokered by the government and military has allowed for the surrender of weapons and removal of bunkers in a bid to restore peace and stability.
