Imran Khan Orders Immediate Expulsion of PTI Leader Sher Afzal Marwat
Rawalpindi: Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has directed the immediate expulsion of firebrand leader Sher Afzal Marwat from the party over repeated violations of party discipline.
The decision was made during a meeting between PTI leaders and the former prime minister at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail during the hearing of the GHQ attack case. Senior party members, including Omar Ayub Khan, Shibli Faraz, and Senator Ali Zafar, reportedly raised concerns about Marwat’s conduct at a recent public gathering in Swabi.
The protest rally, held last week against alleged election rigging, saw tensions rise when Marwat was initially barred from speaking on stage. However, he managed to address the crowd after being invited by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. In his speech, Marwat made cryptic remarks, stating that “bad people” become useful in “bad times,” while some “good people in good times” choose to remain silent.
Sources indicate that Imran Khan was displeased with Marwat’s remarks and directed the party leadership to immediately issue a notification terminating his basic membership. Additionally, PTI is expected to seek Marwat’s resignation as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA).
This move follows a prior show-cause notice issued to Marwat last month for violating party discipline, specifically over his comments against PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja. The expulsion marks a significant internal shake-up as PTI seeks to enforce stricter discipline within its ranks.
