Suicide Bomber Kills Five Outside Bank in Afghanistan’s Kunduz

Kunduz, Afghanistan: A suicide bomber killed five people, including Taliban security personnel, in a deadly explosion outside a bank in Kunduz on Tuesday, police said.

The attack, which targeted a crowd waiting to collect their salaries, also left seven people wounded. Jumadin Khaksar, the police spokesman for Kunduz province, confirmed that the bomber detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) among civilians, civil servants, and Taliban security forces.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Ongoing Security Concerns

While the number of suicide attacks and bombings has declined since the Taliban took power in August 2021, militant groups—including the Islamic State (IS)—continue to pose a security threat.

Last year, a similar suicide bombing outside a bank in Kandahar killed at least three people, an attack claimed by IS. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s explosion in Kunduz.
