Trump Threatens to End Israel-Hamas Ceasefire if Hostages Are Not Released by Saturday
Washington: Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday issued an ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the release of all hostages held in Gaza by midday Saturday. If the militant group fails to comply, Trump warned that he would propose canceling the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and allow “hell to break out.”
Speaking at the White House, Trump acknowledged that Israel might choose to override his stance and indicated he could discuss the matter with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. His remarks came as he expressed frustration over the condition of recently freed hostages and Hamas’ decision to halt further releases.
“As far as I’m concerned, if all of the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock, I think it’s an appropriate time. I would say, cancel it and all bets are off, and let hell break out,” Trump stated. He also insisted that all hostages should be released at once rather than in small groups, emphasizing, “We want ’em all back.”
Aid Threats to Jordan and Egypt
Trump also suggested that U.S. aid to Jordan and Egypt could be at risk if they refuse to accept Palestinian refugees being relocated from Gaza. He is scheduled to meet Jordan’s King Abdullah on Tuesday, where the issue is expected to be discussed.
Gaza Takeover Proposal Sparks Controversy
The former president’s comments came amid confusion surrounding his recent proposal for a U.S. takeover of Gaza following the conflict. Trump stated that Palestinians would not have the right to return to Gaza, contradicting statements from his own officials who suggested the relocation would be temporary.
In an excerpt of an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed he could negotiate a deal with Jordan and Egypt to absorb displaced Palestinians, citing the billions of dollars in aid the U.S. provides to both nations.
When asked if Palestinians would be allowed to return to Gaza, he responded, “No, they wouldn’t because they’re going to have much better housing,” adding that it would take years before Gaza would be habitable again.
