PIA Raises Employee Salaries Amid Rising Inflation

KARACHI: The loss-making Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has increased salaries for its employees amid soaring inflation, ARY News reported on Friday.

According to a PIA spokesperson, the airline’s Board of Directors decided to raise the pay scale of its staff after four years. Supporting the decision, the spokesperson stated that employees had been facing financial hardships due to stagnant wages in an inflationary environment.

The move aims to help retain PIA staff, ensuring stability within the organization, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan continues its efforts to privatize PIA. The first attempt at selling the airline failed after it received only a single bid of Rs10 billion, which was subsequently rejected. The matter has now been forwarded to the cabinet for further deliberation.
