PTI to Challenge Verdict in £190 Million Al-Qadir Trust Case
Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar announced on Friday that the party will challenge the accountability court’s verdict in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, which sentenced PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to jail terms.
Speaking to reporters after the verdict, Barrister Gohar stated that the decision would be appealed in the high court within a few days. He revealed that Imran Khan remained composed and even smiled as the judgment was announced.
“The lady who established a trust for the education of underprivileged children has been sentenced to seven years,” Gohar remarked, expressing confidence that justice would ultimately prevail.
Justice and Dialogue
Barrister Gohar underscored the party’s determination to seek justice, adding, “The time has come for justice to be served.” He further stated that Imran Khan emphasized the importance of continuing talks with the government despite the verdict.
The Verdict
An accountability court in Rawalpindi sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in prison and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to seven years in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. The verdict, delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail, found both individuals guilty of corruption and misuse of authority.
The judgment has sparked significant political and legal debate, with PTI vowing to contest the decision in higher courts.
