Rocket Attack Targets Aid Convoy in Kurram, Damaging Vehicle but Causing No Casualties
In a significant blow to the fragile peace agreement enabling humanitarian aid to reach the conflict-stricken Kurram region, a rocket was fired at the third aid convoy near Bagan, police reported on Thursday.
The attack damaged one vehicle in the convoy, but authorities have confirmed there were no casualties. Following the incident, vehicles in the convoy have begun retreating to Tal, according to Geo News. Similarly, cargo trucks stationed at the Chapri checkpoint have also been redirected.
The district administration stated that the initial phase of the third convoy consisted of 35 cargo vehicles transporting essential supplies, including medicines, fruits, vegetables, and other food items. A second phase, which was set to dispatch additional vehicles, was scheduled for later today.
Security measures for the convoy included deployment of police, Frontier Corps (FC), and other security forces. However, the attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of aid operations in the area.
Authorities are expected to review security protocols to ensure the safe delivery of relief supplies to the region.
