Uzair Baloch Acquitted in Yet Another Case, Marking 36th Acquittal
Karachi: A District and Sessions Court in Karachi has acquitted Uzair Baloch, the alleged Lyari gang war kingpin, in a case involving the killing of three individuals, including a policeman. This marks the 36th acquittal for Baloch in cases filed against him.
The case, registered at Chakiwara police station in 2009, accused Baloch of involvement in the murders. However, defence counsel Farooq Haider Jatoi argued that Baloch had no connection to the killings and was “unlawfully implicated” based on statements from other accused individuals who have already been acquitted. “There was no evidence linking the accused to the case,” Jatoi stated.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
In a separate case, Uzair Baloch, along with his brother Zubair Baloch and others, sought acquittal in the murder of rival gangster Arshad Pappu. During the hearing at an anti-terrorism court (ATC), the judge expressed frustration over the absence of the former investigation officer, DSP Baghdadi Abid Ansari, and directed the concerned SSP to ensure his presence at the next hearing.
Defence lawyer Abid Zaman argued that no evidence tied Baloch and the other accused to Pappu’s murder, urging the court to acquit them.
Previous Acquittals
In August last year, Baloch was acquitted in a case involving a police encounter registered at Steel Town police station. The prosecution alleged a gunfight between police and the accused, during which some suspects, including Rahman dacoit, were killed while Baloch managed to escape. The court found no evidence against him in that case.
