PTI’s Asad Qaiser Urges Joint Opposition Movement Against Shehbaz Government

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser has called for collaboration with other political forces to mount a united movement against the Shehbaz Sharif-led government. Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Qaiser revealed that PTI is in contact with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and is seeking broader opposition support.

The political standoff between the PTI and the ruling coalition has escalated in recent months, with PTI accusing the government of “stealing its mandate” and the government alleging PTI’s involvement in anti-state activities.

Tensions peaked in November following PTI’s protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, which led to police action and legal cases against PTI leadership. Addressing the aftermath, Qaiser alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was equally responsible for the events of November 26.

“We are open to dialogue, but the government has yet to engage us,” Qaiser stated, reaffirming PTI’s commitment to constitutional and legal avenues in its political struggle. He criticised the government for prioritising crackdowns on political workers over addressing genuine security threats, accusing it of labelling peaceful protesters as terrorists.

Highlighting the country’s deteriorating law and order situation, the former National Assembly speaker announced a ceremony to honour martyrs on December 15 at Bagh-e-Naran.

Qaiser also condemned what he described as unconstitutional actions by the government, including the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, and reiterated PTI’s demand for the release of political prisoners.

As political tensions remain high, Qaiser’s outreach signals a potential reshaping of alliances aimed at increasing pressure on the ruling coalition.
