Bushra Bibi Speaks Out: “I Was Left Alone at D-Chowk”
Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has revealed her ordeal during the party’s November 24 protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk. Speaking to supporters during a visit to the family of deceased PTI worker Tajuddin, she stated that she was left alone in her car until late at night as authorities launched a crackdown on protesters.
Protest Fallout
The PTI protest, led by Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was abruptly called off in the early hours of November 27 following a late-night crackdown by authorities. The decision frustrated many PTI workers, who expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership’s retreat.
Bushra’s Account
- On being left alone: “At D-Chowk, I was all alone in my car till 12:30 am,” she said.
- On fleeing allegations: “I am not a woman who runs away. I would never abandon those who came out for Khan.”
- She explained that her car was changed during the protest because of a flat tire, dispelling rumors of fleeing the scene.
Criticism and Response
After the crackdown, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar alleged that Bushra Bibi, CM Gandapur, and others “made a run for it.” A video circulating online showed Bushra moving to Gandapur’s vehicle, which some interpreted as an attempt to flee.
Pain and Reflection
Bushra Bibi also shared her emotional state following the protest:
“I have been in pain these past days because of the deaths that occurred. I felt confused and hurt, wondering why people were lying,” she said, referring to accusations against her.
Leadership in Protest
Despite rarely appearing in public or official events, Bushra Bibi led the rally demanding the release of her husband, Imran Khan. Known for her reserved presence, always clad in a face veil, her role in the protest highlighted her commitment to the cause.
The aftermath of the D-Chowk protest continues to raise questions about PTI’s leadership and strategy during these turbulent times.
