Imran Khan Orders PTI Lawmakers to Address Protest Casualties in Parliament

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan revealed on Monday that incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan expressed sorrow over the casualties during the recent crackdown on protesters in Islamabad. Khan has instructed party lawmakers to bring the issue to the National Assembly and Senate for discussion and protest.

Focus on Protest Casualties

Speaking to the media after meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Gohar stated that the party founder was deeply concerned about reports of deaths during the “final call” protest, held from November 24 to November 27. The protest, which aimed to demand Khan’s release, ended abruptly after a government crackdown that resulted in nearly 1,000 arrests.

Khan, who has been in jail for over a year, was reportedly unaware of the details of the protest due to lack of access to news or television. Gohar said the PTI founder condemned the use of force and directed party leaders to maintain unity amid efforts to divide their ranks.

Deaths and Disputed Accounts

According to PTI, 12 party workers were killed during the protests, while security agencies confirmed the deaths of four personnel, including three Rangers and a police officer, during clashes. The government has denied that law enforcement agencies opened fire on PTI protesters or caused fatalities.

“Bullets shouldn’t be fired regardless of our location,” Gohar quoted Imran Khan, emphasizing that PTI condemns the use of firearms during demonstrations.

Criticism Over Protest Venue

Gohar also addressed the controversy surrounding the protest venue. Initially planned for Sangjani, the demonstration shifted to Islamabad’s D-Chowk, a decision criticized by senior PTI leaders. Gohar dismissed the debate as a distraction from the casualties and emphasized that protests must occur at “impactful places.”

Political Strategy and Health Update

Gohar hinted that Imran Khan would soon announce PTI’s next steps. While responding to queries, he clarified that the party faces no ban and would continue its political struggle. He remained uncertain about potential negotiations with the establishment.

Addressing concerns about Khan’s health, Gohar assured that the PTI founder was in good condition at Adiala Jail.

The party’s recent demonstrations have reignited debates over the political climate in Pakistan, with ongoing tensions between PTI, the government, and law enforcement agencies.
