BAJAUR: Twin explosions shook District Bajaur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, claiming the lives of two individuals, police confirmed.
District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafeeq stated that the blasts occurred in Tehsil Mamund. The first explosion in the Eirab area killed a citizen identified as Malik Asghar, while the second blast in Mainakhor, within the jurisdiction of Loi Police Station, claimed the life of a police officer, Ehsanullah.
The police have launched an investigation into the incidents. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Rising Militancy in KP and Balochistan
The twin blasts underscore a troubling trend of escalating militancy in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the third quarter of 2024 saw a staggering 90% increase in fatalities linked to terrorism and counterterrorism operations. The report documented 722 deaths and 615 injuries across 328 incidents, with KP and Balochistan accounting for 97% of the fatalities.
Security forces and civilians alike remain frequent targets in these regions, with the surge in violence presenting a significant challenge for the government and law enforcement agencies. Investigations into Saturday’s blasts are ongoing.
