Accountability Court Issues Arrest Warrants for Bushra Bibi in £190 Million Case
An accountability court in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, in connection with the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement case. The decision was made by Judge Nasir Javed Rana during the hearing on Friday.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan was also presented before the court during the proceedings. Despite the warrants, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had previously secured bail in the case from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
A two-member IHC bench, comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, had earlier ordered Imran Khan’s release on a surety bond of Rs1 million. The court had also granted bail to Bushra Bibi in its short order following the completion of arguments.
In a related development, Bushra Bibi released a video message urging PTI workers and supporters to participate in the November 24 protest, which she described as a “final or do-or-die” demonstration against the government. She alleged that a propaganda campaign targeting her and her husband began after their visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, accusing detractors of character assassination and labeling Imran Khan a “Jewish agent.”
The issuance of arrest warrants adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal and political challenges facing the PTI leadership.
