PCB to Formally Address ICC on India’s Champions Trophy Boycott
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to formally approach the International Cricket Council (ICC) over India’s decision to abstain from the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan. According to sources cited by Geo News, the PCB plans to dispatch a letter to the ICC within the next two days, aligning with government guidelines.
Following extensive legal consultations, the PCB will request a detailed explanation from the ICC regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to refrain from participating in the tournament in Pakistan. This request reflects Pakistan’s firm stance and the government’s advisory, sources added.
Previously, the BCCI verbally communicated its intent to the ICC, expressing an unwillingness to send the Indian team to Pakistan. The ICC later relayed this decision to the PCB in writing. In response, the PCB engaged in consultations with the government to outline the next steps.
In addition to the ICC appeal, the PCB intends to reach out to other cricket boards to convey its position and gather international support regarding India’s withdrawal. This move follows recent directives from Pakistan’s federal government, which has decided to adopt a firmer stance on sports relations with India in response to the Narendra Modi-led administration’s decision.
