Pakistan Crushes Australia with Dominant Nine-Wicket Win in Second ODI
Pakistan secured a commanding nine-wicket victory over Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series at Adelaide Oval, leveling the series 1-1 and setting up an exciting decider in Perth.
After winning the toss, Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan opted to field first and retained an unchanged playing XI. Australia made a single adjustment, bringing in Josh Hazlewood for Sean Abbott.
Australia’s openers, Jake Fraser-McGurk (13) and Matt Short (19), showed early promise, each hitting three boundaries before Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed both within the first seven overs, reducing Australia to 41-2. Steve Smith then teamed up with Josh Inglis (18) to stabilize the innings, crafting a 38-run partnership before Haris Rauf broke through, dismissing Inglis. Haris quickly struck again, removing Marnus Labuschagne for six, compounding Australia’s troubles.
Smith played a cautious knock, scoring 35 off 48 balls with five boundaries and a six, but his dismissal by Mohammad Hasnain further dented Australia’s momentum. Middle-order batters Aaron Hardie (14) and Glenn Maxwell (16) managed a brief 20-run stand, but the collapse continued, and Australia tumbled from 121-5 to 146-9. A late cameo of 18 runs by Adam Zampa lifted Australia to a modest total of 163.
Pakistan’s bowlers dominated, with Haris Rauf leading the charge with superb figures of 5-29, while Shaheen Afridi added 3-26. Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain also chipped in with a wicket each.
Pakistan’s chase was smooth and emphatic, with the team cruising to a nine-wicket win to secure an unchallenged victory. The final match in Perth promises an exciting series conclusion.
After the ODI series, Pakistan and Australia will compete in a three-match T20I series, starting on November 14 at The Gabba in Brisbane.
