Bushra Bibi Breaks Down in Court, Laments “Unjust Sentencing” of Herself, Imran Khan
Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, broke down in tears during a hearing in Islamabad, expressing her grief over what she described as the “injustice” faced by both her and her incarcerated husband. Appearing before Islamabad District Magistrate Afzal Majoka’s court, Bushra Bibi sought bail for Imran Khan in six cases and for herself in another case filed at various police stations, including Tarnol, Karachi Company, Ramna, Secretariat, and Kohsar.
“I have been facing injustice from those responsible for serving justice for the past nine months. Both I and the PTI founder were unjustly sentenced,” she stated, her voice breaking with emotion.
“There is no justice; I haven’t come to seek justice,” she continued, visibly distressed. Bushra Bibi went on to criticize her legal team, saying that “all lawyers, including the one representing me, only waste time.” She questioned the treatment of her husband in prison, asking, “Isn’t he a human? Doesn’t any judge see this?” She then declared she would not return to the court, calling it a place “where there is no justice.”
In a dramatic moment, Bushra Bibi informed the judge that she had her personal belongings in her car outside the court and was prepared to return to jail if directed.
Bushra Bibi was released from custody last month after the Islamabad High Court granted her bail in the Toshakhana case. Imran Khan, however, remains in Rawalpindi’s Adiala prison. Both were sentenced to 14 years in prison on January 31, after a court found them guilty of retaining and selling state gifts in violation of government rules during Imran Khan’s tenure as prime minister. Both Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan deny the charges, maintaining their innocence against what they claim are politically motivated allegations.
