Seven, Including Schoolchildren, Killed in Mastung Bombing Targeting Police
In a tragic incident in Mastung, Balochistan, a powerful explosion killed seven people and injured 30 others, primarily schoolchildren, near the Girls High School at Civil Hospital Chowk.
The blast, reportedly targeting a police vehicle, claimed the lives of five schoolchildren, one police officer, and a passerby, according to local police reports.
The attack initially left five dead, with two more succumbing to their injuries later at the hospital, as confirmed by DHQ Medical Superintendent Nisar Ahmad Baloch. The ages of the deceased children, which included both boys and girls, ranged from 10 to 13 years.
The explosive device, a remote-controlled bomb planted in a motorcycle, was detonated near the police mobile, according to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Miandad Umrani.
Four police officers were also injured in the blast, which destroyed the police vehicle and caused significant damage to nearby vehicles, including several rickshaws.
Following the attack, an emergency was declared in hospitals across the region, with Mastung Deputy Commissioner Mir Baaz Khan Marri mobilizing resources at DHQ and Nawab Hospitals.
The Balochistan health department declared an emergency in all major hospitals in Quetta, including Civil Hospital, BMC Hospital, and the Trauma Centre. Medical teams were placed on high alert, with all doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and other medical staff summoned to provide immediate assistance to the injured.
Nine critically injured victims have been transferred to Quetta’s Trauma Center for specialized treatment, with three reported in critical condition.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the incident, expressing deep sorrow over the lives lost and extending condolences to the families of the victims, including the martyred policeman and young students. The tragedy has cast a pall over the community as officials continue to investigate the attack.
