PTI Senator Sania Nishtar Resigns from Senate, Joins International Organization
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Dr. Sania Nishtar has officially resigned from her position in the Senate, according to sources cited by ARY News. Nishtar, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s political and healthcare landscape, tendered her resignation to the Senate Secretariat after accepting a role with an international organization based in Geneva.
Dr. Nishtar, a physician by profession, was elected as a senator representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2021 Senate elections. Recently appointed CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in 2024, she has a distinguished career focused on public health and social welfare. During her tenure with the PTI government, she served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, held the status of a federal minister, and chaired both the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Ehsaas Programme.
Her contributions also extended to the 2013 interim federal cabinet, where she oversaw the ministries of public health, education, and science. Nishtar’s move to an international organization marks a significant transition in her career, with her public service contributions continuing to impact Pakistan’s socio-economic and healthcare frameworks.
