KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur Warns of Nationwide Shutdown if Imran Khan Faces Jail Mistreatment
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has issued a stern warning to the federal and Punjab governments, stating that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will initiate a nationwide shutdown if party founder Imran Khan continues to face mistreatment in Adiala Jail.
The warning follows protests by Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, who criticized jail conditions, alleging her brother was subjected to unhygienic food—causing him to fall ill—and power disconnection to his cell since October 3. In a video shared on PTI’s official X account, Gandapur condemned the alleged restrictions on Khan’s communication with family and party members, describing it as “the worst attitude” by the federal and Punjab administrations.
“The government’s days are numbered,” the chief minister declared, urging the nation to prepare for action. “We will shut down the whole of Pakistan and reclaim the stolen mandate,” he said, signaling that the next PTI mobilization would go beyond D-Chowk.
Gandapur also called out party defectors, labeling those who left PTI amid recent political pressures as “traitors.” He emphasized that these defections, motivated by “money” or “cowardice,” would be remembered as betrayals.
As Gandapur’s fiery remarks raise concerns among PTI leadership, some party figures, including leader Sher Afzal Marwat, fear that his confrontational stance could prompt the imposition of governor’s rule in KP, with PTI lawmakers warning that the federal government could use these escalations to dissolve what remains of the provincial administration.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan recently addressed concerns over Imran Khan’s health, confirming his well-being after a visit by medical experts from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences earlier this month.
