Prominent Lawyer Imaan Mazari, Husband Arrested in Islamabad for Obstructing Police Operations
Prominent lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Abdul Hadi, were recently arrested by Islamabad police on charges of interfering with government operations. The couple’s detention follows an altercation with traffic police at Islamabad’s Zero Point Interchange, where they allegedly attempted to remove road blockades set up for the visiting English cricket team’s security protocol.
The case was registered at Aabpara Police Station, with police citing that Mazari and her husband disrupted state guest protocols as the English team was en route to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for their final Test match in Pakistan. Mazari reportedly told officers she was in a rush to reach court, leading to a heated exchange with traffic police. Authorities claimed the couple disregarded the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and issued a warning of possible legal consequences, which culminated in the arrests.
This is not Mazari’s first run-in with law enforcement. Earlier in 2023, she was detained by the capital police on similar charges of “interference in state affairs” before being granted bail by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
