Bilawal Bhutto Reaffirms Support for Constitutional Court, Urges Judicial Reforms
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has reiterated his commitment to the establishment of a Federal Constitutional Court as part of the party’s longstanding judicial reform agenda. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bilawal emphasized that the PPP has advocated for judicial reforms since its 2007 manifesto, with the creation of a constitutional court being a key component. He noted that this commitment has been included in the party’s manifestos for both the 2013 and 2024 elections.
“The PPP has fought every election since 2007 with a pledge to implement judicial reforms, including but not limited to the establishment of federal constitutional courts,” Bilawal stated. He added that the party’s position has remained consistent for nearly two decades, with representatives elected under his leadership receiving a mandate from the people to establish a constitutional court with equal representation for all.
Bilawal also addressed the opposition to judicial reforms, noting that many critics had previously supported similar measures. He argued that their current opposition stems from personal or partisan interests rather than genuine concerns.
The PPP chairman further raised concerns about inefficiencies in the judicial system, highlighting the backlog of unresolved cases. “How can you ignore the backlog of unresolved cases while focusing on other matters?” he questioned, stressing the need for an effective and efficient judiciary.
Referring to Article 63(A), Bilawal expressed frustration with delays in delivering critical judgments, particularly in cases with significant political implications. “How can I be expected to wait until October 25 for a decision on such an important issue?” he asked, underscoring the need for timely justice.
Bilawal’s call for judicial reforms and a constitutional court is part of the PPP’s broader efforts to ensure a more efficient and balanced judicial system in Pakistan.
