England Crush Pakistan by an Innings in First Test at Multan
Multan, Friday – England stormed to a dominant victory over Pakistan, winning by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Spinner Jack Leach played a pivotal role, taking 4-30 as England claimed a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Pakistan, who resumed on the final day at 152-6, managed to extend their innings for only 96 minutes before being bowled out for 220. Notably, Abrar Ahmed did not bat due to illness.
England’s total was built on a remarkable fourth-wicket partnership between Harry Brook and Joe Root, who put together a record-breaking 454 runs. This partnership not only became the highest ever for England in Test cricket—surpassing the previous 411-run stand by Peter May and Colin Cowdrey against the West Indies in 1957—but also the fourth-highest partnership in Test history.
Brook and Root’s marathon effort helped England post one of their highest totals in Test cricket, securing a commanding 267-run lead over Pakistan’s first-innings score of 556.
Leach’s masterful spin bowling ensured that Pakistan couldn’t recover on the final day, sealing a comprehensive win for England.
