Karachi to Face Intense Heat Over the Next Few Days, PMD Warns
KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted scorching weather for Karachi over the next two to three days, with hot and dry conditions expected to prevail in the port city.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the PMD warned that Karachi would experience “hot to very hot and dry” weather, with northwesterly winds contributing to the heatwave. The maximum temperature recorded in Karachi today reached 39°C.
“Hot and dry winds are expected to blow from the northwest in Karachi,” the Met Office noted, urging residents to take precautions against the intense heat.
While Karachi and most parts of the country are expected to remain dry, the weather department forecasted possible rain with wind and thunderstorms in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, thanks to a westerly wave currently affecting the western and upper parts of the country.
Looking ahead to next week, the PMD predicted mainly hot and dry conditions across the country’s plains, with the exception of isolated areas in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where partly cloudy skies and thunderstorms are expected.
The public is advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the upcoming hot spell in Karachi.
