KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur, PTI Leaders Booked in Terrorism Case After Islamabad Protest
ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur and senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have been charged in a terrorism case following the party’s protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad. The case also includes 350 unidentified individuals, according to official reports.
The First Information Report (FIR) names prominent PTI figures such as Azam Swati, Amir Mughal, Omar Ayub, and KP government spokesperson Barrister Saif. CM Gandapur faces accusations of misusing his official protocol, while Azam Swati is charged with providing financial assistance during the protest.
The charges come after a day of heightened tensions, during which CM Gandapur briefly disappeared from public view before reappearing at the provincial assembly. His return was met with a warm welcome from fellow members. In an address, Gandapur expressed pride in his role, stating, “I salute the people of Pakistan who stand beside the party founder.”
In a separate development, nine KP policemen were arrested for allegedly participating in the PTI protest, engaging in vandalism. The officers, apprehended from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, were later transferred to the Secretariat police station. Among those arrested was Rafatullah, a member of the Frontier Corps, and Najeeb, an ASI officer. Disciplinary proceedings against the officers have been initiated by Islamabad police.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that 11 KP police officers and 120 Afghan nationals had been arrested in connection with the PTI protest in Islamabad on September 5.
