Federal Government to Issue Formal Warning to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under Article 149
Pakistan’s federal government has decided to formally warn the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government under Article 149 of the Constitution, according to insider sources. The decision aims to prevent the provincial government from utilizing state machinery and resources amid growing concerns over its actions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the proposal, and following the cabinet’s endorsement, an official directive will be issued to KP. The federal government is particularly concerned that the provincial government’s protests could disrupt the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, scheduled for October in Islamabad.
While there have been speculations about the imposition of governor’s rule, federal sources have denied any such proposal at this stage. However, officials in KP could be instructed not to comply with any unlawful orders from the provincial government under Article 149.
The warning reflects rising tensions between the federal and provincial governments as political disputes escalate ahead of the high-profile international summit.
