Internet and Mobile Services Suspended in Pakistan Amid PTI Protest Call
Islamabad — Internet and mobile networks have been suspended in several cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, in anticipation of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk. The disruptions have also been reported in Karachi, where residents are facing difficulties accessing social media platforms.
Sources indicate that the government has taken this measure to prevent the coordination of protest activities. In a related move, the Punjab government deployed Rangers personnel to four cities after invoking Section 144, which bans political gatherings, protests, and rallies. The cities affected by Section 144 include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha.
In Lahore, three companies of Rangers have been called upon to maintain order, particularly on October 5. Section 144 will remain in effect in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha from Friday, October 4, through Sunday, October 6, in an effort to prevent unrest during the PTI demonstrations.
