Usman Qadir Announces Retirement from Pakistan Cricket, Reflects on Career and Future

Pakistan leg-spinner Usman Qadir has announced his retirement from representing Pakistan, as revealed in a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter). Qadir, who last played for Pakistan in 2022, recently represented Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup.

In his post, Qadir expressed gratitude for his journey with the Pakistan cricket team, thanking his coaches, teammates, and the passionate fans who supported him throughout his career. “It has been an immense honor to represent my country,” he wrote, highlighting both the victories and challenges that shaped his career

Qadir, the son of legendary Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, mentioned that as he steps into this new chapter, he will continue his father’s legacy. “I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together,” he added.

The 31-year-old cricketer has played 25 T20Is and one ODI for Pakistan, taking 29 wickets with an economy rate of 7.95 in the shorter format.

Earlier in May 2024, Qadir publicly criticized former PCB technical director Mohammad Hafeez, blaming him for his exclusion from the national team. He claimed that despite assurances from former T20 captain Shaheen Afridi of selection for the New Zealand series in January based on his domestic performances, Hafeez’s alleged interference negatively impacted his career.

Qadir’s announcement marks the end of his tenure with Pakistan cricket, though he remains committed to cricket through his family’s legacy.
