FBR Extends Tax Return Deadline for Financial Year 2024 to October 14

FBR Extends Tax Return Deadline for Financial Year 2024 to October 14

After extensive discussions, the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has announced an extension for the submission of tax returns for the financial year 2024, moving the deadline to October 14, 2024.

In a notification released late Monday, the FBR stated, “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, the date for filing Income Tax returns for Tax Year 2024, originally due by September 30, 2024, is hereby extended to October 14, 2024,” following requests from various trade bodies, Tax Bar Associations, and the general public.

This decision came just hours after the FBR had dismissed the possibility of extending the September 30 deadline, labeling media reports suggesting an extension as “untrue.”

The FBR has urged all taxpayers to submit their income tax returns promptly to avoid penalties and legal repercussions. In recent years, the FBR has often extended the deadline for tax return submissions; last year, the deadline was pushed to October 31.
