Punjab Police Registers FIR Against Jamaat-e-Islami Leaders for Violating Section 144 During Protest
Lahore – The Punjab police have registered an FIR against several leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) for allegedly violating Section 144 during a sit-in protest at Bhekewal Morr in Lahore, as part of the party’s “Haq Do Awam” campaign, according to ARY News.
Sub-Inspector Khalid Hussain from Iqbal Town police station filed the FIR, naming nine prominent JI leaders, including JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Ziauddin Ansari, Khalid Butt, Liaqat Baloch, and Ahmad Salman Baloch. The protest led to a roadblock, causing significant public inconvenience, which prompted the police to take legal action against the demonstrators.
In response, JI Central Secretary General Amirul Azeem condemned the arrests, accusing the Punjab police of targeting party leaders and dismantling their protest camps. He pointed out that leaders from various districts, including Khanewal, Rajanpur, and Okara, such as Haroon Rasheed Nizami and Dr. Irfan, were also taken into custody.
Amirul Azeem vowed that these actions would not weaken the party’s movement. He reaffirmed JI’s commitment to its cause, noting that such tactics would not deter them from continuing their protests.
Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan had announced nationwide sit-ins on September 29 to demand a reduction in electricity prices, marking a key focus of the “Haq Do Awam” campaign.
