Polio Worker Rape Case: Court Issues Notices Over Alleged DNA Sample Tampering

A local court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a rape case involving a lady polio worker until September 28. The victim was presented in court under tight security by the police.

The petitioner submitted an application opposing the alleged attempt to alter the DNA samples. In response, the court issued notices to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), District Health Officer (DHO), and Civil Surgeon of the local hospital.

The victim told the court that influential individuals were attempting to tamper with the DNA evidence. She further stated that although the Sindh government had ordered the removal of the DHO, he refused to step down from his position.

In a previous hearing, the polio worker testified that she had been raped in Allah Bux Jakhrani village, but police coerced her into altering her statement. The initial charges of abduction and rape were reportedly changed to robbery following intervention from influential figures.

SSP Jacobabad informed the court that the accused, Ahmed Jakhrani, had been arrested. He also admitted that outside interference had led to the modification of the victim’s statement.

In response to the incident, the Sindh government took action, removing Jacobabad’s Deputy Commissioner, SSP, and DHO for their negligence in handling the case. Official notifications stated that the SSP was directed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO), while the DC was instructed to report to the Services and General Administration Department.
