Pakistan Triumphs 2-1 Over Japan to Claim First Win at 2024 Asian Champions Trophy

Pakistan clinched their first win at the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy with a 2-1 victory over Japan, propelling them to the second position on the points table.

In a decisive shift from their previous defensive approach, Pakistan started aggressively in their third match. Ahmad Nadeem scored the opening goal in the ninth minute of the first quarter, with Shahid Hannan assisting in sending the ball to the back of the net.

Pakistan continued their dominance, adding another goal in the second quarter to establish a 2-0 lead over Japan. Japan managed to score their only goal by converting a penalty corner into a goal.

Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan’s second fixture ended in a 2-2 draw against South Korea. Despite taking a narrow lead, Pakistan struggled to maintain their advantage and failed to defend against South Korea’s late equalizer, scored by Hyun Jigwang in the dying minutes of the second quarter.

With this victory, Pakistan has shown renewed confidence and solidified their position in the tournament, setting the stage for a strong finish in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy.
