5.4-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rattled several regions of Pakistan on Wednesday, affecting parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the tremors occurred at 12:29 PM, with the earthquake’s epicenter near Dera Ghazi Khan at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Sargodha felt the quake, along with Chiniot, Okara, Jaranwala, Shorkot, Mianwali, and Sahiwal. Areas in KP such as Malakand, Lakki Marwat, and Chitral were also affected.
Following the tremors, many people rushed outdoors in fear, reciting prayers. Fortunately, no loss of life or property damage was reported.
This earthquake follows a 4.5-magnitude quake that hit Swat on Tuesday, and another 5.4-magnitude quake that jolted Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and KP on August 29.
Pakistan is prone to seismic activity due to its location near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Despite the frequency of these events, Wednesday’s earthquake caused no significant harm.
